In the Playgroup (2 - 6 years) parents and children meet for crafting, playing and singing. The participation of German-speaking parents is particularly important for the success of these meetings. Here children hear how other children and adults converse in German and experience that this language represents " a normal language “ and nothing to be afraid of. The task of parents is to encourage the children to actively use German and if necessary to translate their Japanese expressions to German and repeat these phrases. In exceptional cases children from Japanese parents can take part in the Playgroup, but as a fundamental rule no Japanese can be used during the meetings. By taking part in the group we want to develop a consciousness and understanding for the German culture and traditions. So egg painting at Easter, Lantern Processions in November and crafting for Christmas in December, etc. are solid parts of the curriculum. The chronicle gives a detailed overview of past meetings and activities.
