The "Mausgruppe" (group of the Mouse) is a parents initiative from Kyoto having the aim to make it possible for children with a German-language background to have regular contact with the German language and culture. We are convinced of the fact that bilingual abilities should be regarded as an invaluable gift. At the same time we know about the special difficulties in the everyday life multilingual families lead in Japan.
The "Mausgruppe" tries to give these families support and comfort. Particularly in a monolingual environment like the Japanese people are astonished when someone is bilingual. In our opinion due to globalisation it's more important and valuable than ever to be able to communicate in more than only one language fluently. The group of mice is not profit-oriented, but nevertheless we have to share the costs for utilities, teaching materials, remuneration, web page etc. At the same time we want to keep membership fees and costs as low as possible. Therefore we are always dependent on the assistance and the commitment of the parents. Since there is only a small number of German families in the Kansai region it is most important to get more attention from other German parents. The "Mausgruppe" will only be successful if enough parents engage themselves on a long-term basis.
