The "Mausgruppe" in Kyoto is a non-profit private initiative of German parents to cultivate the German language abilities of (their) children. Confidence is regarded to be the key for children to use and utilize German in a non German environment. Since Japanese is the overwhelming language (of course..) German is only to be heard inside the family used by (one of) the parents.
In our meetings we try to overcome this situation and give a chance to experience German as normal means of communication. We also encourage parents to exchange information on how to deal with a situation trying to raise kids in a multicultural background.
